A Bad Case of Stripes - Online Storytime

Hello everyone! We hope you are all excited for A Bad Case of Stripes by David Shannon!

Leanna and I have put together a bunch of fun activities and crafts for the little ones. Starting on Monday, September 20th (today), the kits will be available to pick up for our online storytime.

Enjoy a FREE copy of the book, and have fun doing the activities.

Everything is yours to keep!

"A Bad Case of Stripes" by David Shannon

“What we have here is a bad case of stripes. One of the worst I've ever seen!" Camilla Cream loves lima beans, but she never eats them. Why? Because the other kids in her school don't like them. And Camilla Cream is very, very worried about what other people think of her. In fact, she's so worried that she's about to break out in... a bad case of stripes!”

You will have the book read to you by actor Sean Astin. He did such a great job; we hope you enjoy his reading as much as we did!

HANDOUT GAMES – play with included girl handouts

Can You Show Me…?

(tune: “Here We Go Round the Mulberry Bush”)

Can you show me the red girl?

Red girl, red girl?

Can you show me the red girl?

And wave her in the air?

Yellow… purple… blue… green

Hold It High – Choose one girl from handouts

Hold your girl high and stand

Now wave it around in gestures grand!

Hold your girl below your chin

Now hold it way up high again

Hold your girl against your nose

Now touch the girl to your toes

Touch your girl to the ground

Now wave that girl all around!

Hold your girl in front of you

Now turn around – one time, two!

Hold your girl and jump up high!

Now let your girl fly fly fly (throw it in the air)

SONGS & INSTRUMENTuse included instruments

Me! by Super Simple Songs

Patterns and Colors by Patty Shukla

If You Love Me and You Know It by the Kiboomers

Patterns by The Bopalongs

BOUNCE RHYME (bounce along with child in lap)

Jumping Beans

One bean, two

I like jumping beans, do you?

Three beans, four

Beans come jumping through the door!

Five beans, six

Jumping beans do lots of tricks!

Seven beans, eight

Beans jump right onto my plate!

Nine beans, ten

Watch them jump all over again!

ACTION RHYMES

I Like Myself

(Tune: Mary Had A Little Lamb)

I like myself the way I am

The way I am, the way I am

I like myself the way I am

I wouldn’t change a thing

I like you the way you are

The way you are, the way you are

I like you the way you are

I wouldn’t change a thing

The Good Food Song

(Tune: “Old MacDonald Had A Farm”)

Vegetables are good for me,

EE I EE I O

And so I eat them happily,

EE I EE I O

With a lima bean here, and a lima bean there

Here a bean, there a bean

Everywhere a lima bean.

Vegetables are good for me,

EE I EE I O.

(sing again with new vegetables!)

Hands on Shoulders

Hands on shoulders,

hands on knees.

Hands behind you,

if you please;

Touch your shoulders,

now your nose,

Now your hair and now your toes;

Hands up high in the air,

Down at your sides, and touch your hair;

Hands up high as before,

Now clap your hands, one-two-three-four!

Hands

My hands upon my head I’ll place,

Upon my shoulders, on my face,

At my waist and by my side,

Then behind me they will hide.

Then I’ll raise them way up high,

And let my fingers fly, fly, fly,

Then clap, clap, clap them—

One - Two - Three!

Now see how quiet they can be.

Ten Little Fingers

I have ten little fingers

And they all belong to me.

I can make them do things,

Would you like to see?

I can shut them up tight;

I can open them wide;

I can put them together;

And I can make them all hide.

I can put them up high;

I can put them down low;

I can fold them together,

And hold them just so.
