"Never Play Music Right Next to the Zoo" by John Lithgow

Oh, children! Remember! Whatever you may do, Never play music right next to the zoo. They’ll burst from their cages, each beast and each bird, Desperate to play all the music they’ve heard. A concert gets out of hand when the animals at the neighboring zoo storm the stage and play the instruments themselves in this hilarious picture book.”

**You will have to return this book to the library; everything else is yours to keep!

You will have the book read to you by John Lithgow! He did such a great job; we hope you enjoy his reading as much as we did!

BOUNCE RHYME (bounce along with child in lap)

Underneath The Monkey Tree

Come and bounce a while with me,

(bounce child in lap)

Underneath the monkey tree.

Monkey See and Monkey Do,

Just like monkeys in the zoo.

Swing up high, one, two, three,

(bounce child up high)

Underneath the monkey tree.

Monkey See and Monkey Do,

Just like monkeys in the zoo.

Swing down low and smile like me,

(bounce child down low)

Underneath the monkey tree.

Monkey See and Monkey Do,

Just like monkeys in the zoo.

ACTION RHYMES

The Animals at the Zoo

(Tune: "The Wheels on the Bus")

The lions at the zoo go roar, roar, roar,

Roar, roar, roar, roar, roar, roar,

The lions at the zoo go roar, roar, roar,

All day long!

The snakes at the zoo go hiss, hiss, hiss,

Hiss, hiss, hiss, hiss, hiss, hiss,

The snakes at the zoo go hiss, hiss, hiss,

All day long!

The hyenas at the zoo go ha, ha, ha,

Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha,

The hyenas at the zoo go ha, ha, ha,

All day long!

The monkeys at the zoo go oooh, oooh, oooh,

Oooh, oooh, oooh, oooh, oooh, oooh,

The monkeys at the zoo go oooh, oooh, oooh,

All day long!

If I Were

(Tune: "The Mulberry Bush")

Oh, if I were a tiny snake,

A tiny snake, a tiny snake.

Oh, if I were a tiny snake,

I’d slither around the zoo.

Oh, if I were an elephant,

an elephant, an elephant.

Oh, if I were an elephant,

I’d march around the zoo.

Oh, if I were a kangaroo,

A kangaroo, a kangaroo.

Oh, if I were a kangaroo,

I’d hop around the zoo.

My Instruments

(Tune: "Mary Had a Little Lamb")

I can always play my drum,

(clap hands or drum on thighs)

Play my drum, play my drum,

I can always play my drum,

Along with my maracas

I can shake my maracas

(shake hands in the air)

Maracas, maracas

I can shake my maracas

Along with my kazoo

I can blow in my kazoo,

(blow in your real kazoo or holds hands up by mouth as if playing)

My kazoo, my kazoo,

I can blow in my kazoo,

I love to play music!
